Day 18 - Join Me For Tea?

Have you ever been to a tea party?  I have fond memories of one I went to when I was a little girl, in a bonified tea room.  I don't remember much, but I do remember the pretty teacups.. the fancy cookies and just being enchanted to be there.  Maybe that is why I like painting tea cups so much.. Teacups have made it into many of my paintings, indeed, and I've definitely pondered why.

...perhaps another reason I like painting teacups is because I used to make pottery years ago and made my fair share of teacups..  So, I've explored cups from the standpoint of actually designing and making them. I appreciate, for instance, a well designed handle, or a particularly elegant curve in the body of the cup..
I also love that teacups and even drinking tea is symbolic in many cultures.. for instance the Japanese tea ceremony considers all aspects of having tea sacred from the preparation and serving of the tea to the types of vessels used. (read more about this beautiful ceremony here)
And lastly I thoroughly enjoy drinking tea!  Earl Grey, Yunan Bo nay, Special Gun Powder Green tea, and Jasmine are some of my favorites but I've a whole cabinet full of different kinds.

So, I guess that is enough reasons why I paint teacups, don't you think? So anyway, will you join me? :)

Day 9 - A Quiet Multitude of Little Miracles

Sometimes a painting turns out so adorable and sweet, it just has to have a title that reflects what my heart feels when I look at it. This is one of them.  I know the title seems big and perhaps a bit much for this sweet little piglet on a cupcake in a teacup... with raspberries. But, here is the quote that I borrowed the title from -

"It's a quiet multitude of little miracles that makes life sweet" - Marjorie P Hinckley

When I read this quote, it seemed the perfect pairing with this painting, and the painting seemed a perfect visual to metaphorically describe it.  I couldn't agree more with Marjorie's sentiment.  Yes there are big, monumental events in life that can make life extra amazing and special, but most days are just not like that.  Most days are mundane while we go through the routines and moments that make it up.  I find that there are, however, multitudes of little miracles sprinkled through out every single one of my mundane days that indeed make my days sweet and good.  This little painting (only 8"x8"), quietly packs in a multitude of unexpected bits of joy, and it amounts to a sweet composition of yum! ♥

Day 28 - Colorful Broo

Well, it is the end of another daily painting challenge and I will be sad to see this one pass.   I have enjoyed this one so much for a few reasons, one of which is that I got to do it with many of my artist friends from Art Plus Gallery in West Reading.  This month's paintings were an eclectic mix of animals and fantastic subject matter, and I thought that this painting was a good one to post on the last day.. Teacups often make it into the mix and so do cows and umbrellas... I thought that this bright rainbow umbrella pretty much sums up the brew and crew of imagery I painted, plus it just makes me happy.  I hope it makes you happy too. :) I love the black and white cow.. just something about the angles and contrasts, and letting her soak in some tea seemed right. Add in a tasty cookie and a corvidae and well... Mooahh ♥ ♥ ♥

If you are one of the kind folks who has come to read my blog throughout the month, I want to extend a huge thank you for taking the time out of your day to check out some of the thoughts that run through my head on any given day.  It means the world to me!

THANK YOU!
