Chicken Chucks

I have painted a lot of chickens.  And I have painted quite a few pairs of Converse Allstar sneakers (I know them as Chucks...).  So I figured.. Why not put 'em together.  I like the resulting painting, although, when I first designed this one, he looked like he was dancing.  Now he looks like he is taking a bow, or, maybe saying... "What?  You lookin' at me?"
Anyway, a fun one for today to combat the strange news that gets stranger by the day.....

Day 21 - He's All That

So, I am lovin' the color palette for this painting (and yesterday's, matter o' fact..) I need to experiment with these colors on a larger scale.  I said I was going to paint 4 roosters, and I did!  There may be more, but I am not promising anything.  I really enjoy painting birds in general, and people seem to like them too which I am thankful for... but, I think there might be moose in the future, as my awesome cousin from Oxford, England plopped the idea into my head... I have been rolling it around, thinking it sounds pretty good... Stay tuned for possible moose..

Day 20 - We Need to Talk

Today I am 2/3 of the way done this 30 in 30...  and let me tell you... I kind of secretly wish it would continue past 30 days.  It is a respite to think, "I HAVE to get up to my studio today", because of the challenge (even though there would be no repercussions if I didn't :)) I love doing the challenge even though it is a total juggling act... Anyway...
Rooster #3 in a series of (at least) 4.  This guy looks like he has something important to talk about, and now... I really like the head on shot of this one... enjoyed painting him!

Day 9 - Starry Starry Rooster

Corny title, I know.  I don't care... it must be...vvI painted this painting on a black ground today.  The gesso I used was particularly absorbent and I needed to work fast and thick.... In addition, the past few days I have been leaving my photo reference behind about 1/2 way through the painting.  I then finish the painting using cues from the artwork itself, rather than the photo.  These factors made for a very expressive chicken!  This guy fits into my "vintage" category as it's breed is apparently a Silver Duckwing which is considered Old English game... so to me, this sounded pretty vintage... Anyway here it is... :)

After taking a picture of it, I noticed how much it reminded me of VanGogh's Starry, Starry, Night.  Below is a closeup of a part that is particularly Van Gogh-ish...

Day 16 - In the Road

I am doing birds for the next few days as they are fun and generally quick... I have daughter's birthday coming up, an art opening Friday and a party to throw on Saturday, so it is necessary!  This guy is the same rooster as yesterday, just in a different position.  I like everything about how this one turned out... like it even better than yesterdays rooster.   He looked to me to be standing on a road somewhere... I just hope he made it across!

Day 15 - Rooster Time

Day 15... Yay!  1/2 way there!
I did a series of chickens about a year ago and sold most of them.... I thought it might be time to do a few more feathered friends... This guy struck me mainly because of his pose and the striking contrast between him and the back ground.  I pushed the colors a bit to make it a complementary color scheme... I think I will paint another of this same rooster in a different pose... Enjoy!

Lookin' Good

This is the last of 3 paintings of chickens that I am offering at DPW for a low starting bid of $25!  These 3 chickens really seemed to be posing for me when I took their pictures.  I love how they are all so different!  This painting is framed in a pickled white solid wood frame and is ready to hang and enjoy!

Daily Paintworks

I have recently joined an online group called Daily Paintworks.  Through this site I am able to sell my artwork and keep an online gallery of my art.  Yes I still have my personal website, but this is just another outlet to hopefully sell art through.  Many artists have had success through DPW and I hope to as well!  I have posted 5 or 6 paintings so far and it is awesome that I have gotten comments on some of them from respected artists!  The 21st century is truly a great time to be an artist.  To see this painting and purchase it if you like, click on the link below the picture.
