August 30 paintings in 30 days!

August has just about arrived and I can't believe it.  My aptitude for blogging is truly lacking and I see the last post I wrote was so long ago that it certainly qualifies as another lifetime...especially factoring in everything that has been going on in the world in 2020.  So, since the blissful post of yore, where I was painting away in a covid-free world (or so I thought), it is almost laughable to say -  things have changed. Artists (and frankly everyone) around the world have felt the ramifications of covid and, we all know it, so, I am not going to go into any details about that here.  (if curious though, see my past 3 newsletters here, here and here to read some of what I have been doing since January...)

As I was saying, it is the last day of July, 2020 and after mulling it over, I have decided I need to do a 30 in 30 again, where I paint and post 30 paintings in 30 days...I'm feeling the yen for just that kind of thing. So, stay tuned future selves..  I'll be starting my August 30 in 30 on Sunday, August 2nd and I am excited! I will be posting here every day, as well as on my facebook, Instgram and dailypaintworks pages.. Woo Hoo!  Hold on to your hats... :)

Day 7 of the 30 in 30 - Happy Birthday!

Today is my birthday, so I wanted to paint the cuteness.... Of course, chocolate labs are adorable, and lop eared bunnies may be cuter.  And the icing on my cake is the little bluebird on top.  Rest assured,  I will resume my travels around the globe and my "Glimpsed" paintings on Monday.  But the weekend is for the delightful.

Day 25 of my Holiday Painting Spree "Duck, Duck Red Chucks"

Another Fowl in Footwear.  These are too fun to paint!
I love painting birds, and I love painting Chucks. It somehow didn't seem too much of a stretch to put them together.  Plus, I think we all need a laugh right about now, don't you?

Chicken Chucks

I have painted a lot of chickens.  And I have painted quite a few pairs of Converse Allstar sneakers (I know them as Chucks...).  So I figured.. Why not put 'em together.  I like the resulting painting, although, when I first designed this one, he looked like he was dancing.  Now he looks like he is taking a bow, or, maybe saying... "What?  You lookin' at me?"
Anyway, a fun one for today to combat the strange news that gets stranger by the day.....

Day 14 of my Holiday Painting Spree - "Refuge" + the winner of my Painting Giveaway

"There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: Music and Cats" - Albert Schweitzer

I love how you can find quotes on the internet on just about any subject... This one from renown Nobel Laureate, theologian, and musician Albert Schweitzer seemed fitting for today's painting of a scruffy yet lovable looking Tom cat.  This kitty is asking for attention, or maybe a bowl of milk?  Whatever the case, he probably is willing to bring some relief to the miseries in his master's life.  The genuine joy of having a companion pet is the unconditional love they give, whether deserved or not. On the flip side, there are those of us two legged beings who provide much needed refuge to animals in need. My mom is one of them, caring for rescue dogs, wild birds, the deer that frequent her back yard and most recently, a scruffy cat who lives in the woods behind her house. <3  For sure, we should all treat our animal friends with kindness and refuge.

Day 13 of my Holiday Painting Spree - "Watching"

Today is Cat painting #2.  I really enjoy painting cats because their eyes are so expressive. They seem to know about and analyze the world around us.  This cat captivated me because of it's intensely watchful expression... Is he perhaps planning his next meal?   Looking up quotes about Watching, I came across several that struck me as worth thinking about....

Here is one, pertinent to this moment in time, again, from Einstein:

And another, which made me smile..

And related to this, is one of my favorites that fuels my fire

"I thought about quitting, but then I noticed who was watching" (speaking of my kids...)

Day 12 of my Holiday Painting Spree - "Curiosity"

You know the old saying, Curiosity killed the cat. :( So sad to think that wanting to know the answers could possibly be fatal.... Well, look at it this way, Albert Einstein is quoted as saying, "I have no special talents.  I am only passionately curious." Curiosity is what finds answers, solves problems, and uncovers new discoveries.  I have always been a passionately curious person myself.  When I was a child, I remember a treasured book I was given by my parents called "Tell Me Why".  They got it for me as I was always asking questions... Loved that book and indeed, still have it today, although much of the information is sorely out of date. :)
In today's painting, this cat seemed to be to be asking a question too. What she is asking I will leave up to you... Curious cats are hopefully luckier than that old saying....

Day 20 - Blue Bird

Today's painting... another fluff of a blue bird.. This guy isn't quite as vibrant as the one from 2 day's ago... he is softer and a bit more subtle....  I wish I knew how to attract these cute birds to my bird feeder.  I get chickadees and finches.... but never a blue bird. Oh well. I painted 2 birds today to catch up since I didn't paint yesterday.  Will probably paint something different tomorrow!

Day 9 - Late Afternoon Golden

I knew I'd paint another of these sunlit pups after I painted the first one for Day 4's painting.  I do enjoy painting dogs from behind also!... I have done it for quite a few commissions and one of my own doggies too.. Something about their personality can be seen in the way they stand and how they walk from behind... In any case, this one is an older girl out for a late, hazy afternoon stroll... Going for a walk with the dog.... good for the soul...

Just for fun, here is one I did in 2012 of my two doggies..
interesting to see how much my style has changed!

Little Chicky

Today was the first day that it truly felt like Spring for me.  I cooked dinner on the grill while listening to the joyful cacophony of bird song.  What are they talking about?  Sometimes it seems as if they are singing for the pure love of song.  This little one is my inspiration for Spring after the seemingly endless Winter!  I am really happy with the spontaneous feel of this guy and the quality of my brushstrokes...

Teacup Kitty

I took part in an animal rescue benefit show the other weekend and painted a few kitties for the occasion.  This is an adorable little kitty who fits neatly into a bowl, but after I painted her, it looked to me like she was curled up in a teacup, hence the title, Teacup Kitty.  This painting is framed in a beautiful, solid wood, black and gold frame, adding about 5" total to each dimension.  She comes ready to hang.  Hope you like her!  If you are interested in giving this girl a forever home, click the link below the picture to go to my DPW page.. Thanks!

The flower cow

I have been meaning to paint this little girl for a long time... She is actually meant to be a creamer, but looks pretty with a tiny bouquet of flowers from my yard.  Doesn't she welcome spring nicely?  You can purchase her through the Daily Paintworks link below.

Terrence

This guy is a fine specimen.  He looks to me like he's been around the block once or twice and might just have some wisdom to share with us....if we spoke his language!
