So, I am really enjoying mashing up my painting interests.  This is my 3rd Fowl in Footwear painting, and there will definitely be more.  Its just too fun!  Ducks are a type of fowl I haven't painted before. I am sure, they will make their way into more paintings too!

Day 22 of my Holiday Painting Spree - "Let Sleeping Dogs Lie"

I have been painting dogs for the past few days.  Another one will be comin up tomorrow too!  Dogs are one of my favorite subjects to paint, I guess because I love 'em so much.  I have found that when you love what you are painting, the painting comes out so much faster and easier, and dogs do fit into that category, most of the time.  This guy just captured my heart, because I have often just stopped and admired my own sleeping doggies. There is something so cute and peaceful about a sleeping dog.  And if you have one sleeping by your side, extra relaxing too.

Day 21 of my Holiday Painting Spree AND the winner of this weeks painting!

I have had a lot of fun painting these little bulldogs the past few days.  When you paint something, naturally you are looking at the subject very closely and repeatedly... Because of this, you start to notice things you perhaps had never noticed before.  What I found with French Bulldogs is that they have the cutest little faces and most of them have a huge smile. They must be the happiest pups to have as a pet.  This one, however, doesn't have a huge smile.. in fact, as I look at her, it is more of a Mona Lisa smile.  Makes me wonder, what's she thinking about?

Saudade & Day 15 of my Holiday Painting Spree

Today is the beginning of the 3rd week of my Holiday Painting Spree! That means I have a new painting to giveaway.  This is one that I painted during one of the 30 in 30's I have taken part in and is a landscape from somewhere in Brazil. I found this scene while wandering around Brazil in Google Street View and the clouds and patterns in the landscape captivated to me!  The painting used to have a different title, but I've changed it to "Saudade", a beautiful Brazilian word that is unique to their culture.  According to wikipedia the meaning of Saudade is "A deep emotional state of nostalgic or profound melancholic longing for an absent something or someone that one loves." Today is also Day 7 of my Holiday Painting Spree!  (I think I was a little nuts when I planned on doing all of this off in the weeks around all of the holidays!..)  I have a new mini series of birds... Chickadees!  They are the cutest little birds to paint with their black capped round heads and sweet little faces.  I am also having fun experimenting with the background.  I used both paint brushes and palette knives in this painting to create all of the different textures in both the bird and the background. I love the effect!
