Very thankful Brother Longhorn...

Upon the encouragement of my friend and fellow artist, Crystal Domino, I recently entered a local art show entitled "The Farm" at Studio B in Boyertown.  I submitted Brother Longhorn, and Man & Wife.  Tonight was the opening of the show and I am so honored to say that Brother Longhorn won 2nd place for best in show.  Thanks Crystal!  And thanks to Studio B!  I am excited to get to know the Gallery and its esteemed artist members.

Having a snack - sold!

I love the feeling when I get a phone call from the gallery and they tell me someone has purchased one of my paintings!  I never thought it would feel so good to know that someone likes my artwork and wants it hanging in their home! I got the message yesterday that I sold my painting Having a Snack which was hanging in the West Reading Tavern.  Thank you for the blessing!

Blue Moo

Today is my hubby's birthday, so, firstly, Happy Birthday, Kevin!

O.k., next.  This little guy has been done for awhile, and I honestly thought I posted it but apparently not.  He was a cow at the long horn cattle ranch, however, he doesn't have the horns, so I don't know what's going on with that.  But the way he was looking right at the camera, and the challenge of painting black fur is what drew me to painting him.  This is one of my little 6"x6" paintings and is already framed and ready to hang!

Little Big Horn slide show

Hopefully you can see this cool slide show I put together using an online slideshow maker called slideful.com...  I love it!!!  I will be making more of these, because it was sooooo easy to do!  Enjoy!  This is a short progression of the little cow I call Little Big Horn.  He was at the long horn cattle ranch I have talked about before.  Just a baby... But growing his horns in nicely  If the slideshow doesn't automatically change, hover over the picture and use the arrows to change slides.. Thanks for looking!

Hello All!
I am busily preparing for the Wine and Cheese Fundraiser at the Goggleworks this Sunday.  There will be wine and cheese (well, yeah...) as well as fabulous art for sale (think gifts...) great auction items as well as musical entertainment and other tasty appetizers. Very excited for this event as it will be my first time participating...  Here is one of the latest 6"x6" paintings I have completed.  I am so happy with my brush work and colors in this painting.  This little cow was caught on camera a while back at this unexpected Long horn cattle ranch near my house.  If you would like to purchase him, come to the fundraiser on Sunday from 2-5... Get there early, or he might be gone!

Baby Longhorn -or- Having a snack

Having a Snack, 12" x 12", oil on canvas

Yesterday's marketing challenge was to post pictures of a painting in progress.  I have done this before and it is fun to see the progression. I had started this painting the day before, so I had already done the drawing and started blocking things in.  This painting is of a young long horn cow (from one of the photos I took at a long horn cattle farm near my house).  He is having a snack, as you can see the grass hanging out of his mouth.  I have to say the most challenging part of this painting was his tongue! (Not quite sure why...) In fact when I first saw the picture, I didn't realize his tongue was sticking out.  When I noticed it, that is what cinched it for me.  I had to paint it!  (artists are weird that way...)  So here are pictures of the progression of this painting. Enjoy!

This stage is actually more accurate to the original photo, but I didn't feel there was enough contrast in his face.  I also needed to add more detail to his eyes than what was in the photo. For this, I looked up some other reference photos of cows on the net.
Here's the original photo

Brother Longhorn

I finished the painting  Brother Longhorn today.  I left the background alone, mainly because I was so pleased with the looseness of it and the bold colors.  I worked mainly on Mr. Longhorn himself, finessing the details, while trying not to lose that loose feel.  I like the closeness of the composition and had lots of fun trying to capture the majesty and curiosity of this big guy!

In addition, I have launched a website where I will be selling my artwork!  I finally got off my butt and bought a domain name through Weebly.  You can find it here www.karenweberfineart.com .It is still under construction, so please be patient, but soon, I will have my paintings for sale (with paypal), and I will be offering prints and other fun goodies!  So stay tuned!

Brother Long horn - in process

There is a Longhorn Cattle ranch near my home in St. Lawrence. While out taking pictures one morning, I came upon it, much to my surprise! This big guy was particularly curious and let me take lots of pictures of him. This painting isn't quite finished, but I wanted to post today, since I may not get to paint again until Monday. It is almost there - just needs some finishing touches. Come back soon to see the finished painting!
