Today's painting is a new entry in my ongoing series of Snails with alternative shells. I've titled it "Toot Your Own Horn" mainly because it is logical and it makes me laugh... This whole series has given me a lot of laughs and even better, it seems to be a bottomless well of possibilities. I keep coming up with new things to try out and each one brings bigger smile. Today's snail is sporting a French Horn and I entertained the idea of titling this one in French, preferably the French equivalent of Toot Your Own Horn. Being that I don't know French, I had to use Google translate to help out. (as an aside, I love google translate..) I've found that sometimes the results are less than accurate, however, likely because there isn't a direct translation for what I am wanting to say. Anyway, I went to Google translate, plugged in English to French and typed in Toot Your Own Horn.. waited a beat and voila, find google claims it translates to kalxonnez vous-meme... sounds pausible... I always reverse the translation to make sure it actually means what I typed in. Turns out kalxonnez vous-meme does not mean Toot Your Own Horn.. no, instead, it means Honk Yourself. Which has me giggling... a lot! Toot your own horn... Honk Yourself... tomato, tomahto... all the same thing.. :)
